The Definition of Success

September 1st 2008

Q. I’ve heard many people describe what success means to them.  How would you describe success for you?

A. There are many definitions of success, and if you asked me several years ago – or even a few years ago – I likely would have shared a different answer.

Although success is defined in many different ways by many different people, success for me comes down to asking myself three simple questions each day – Am I passionate about what I’m doing and am I enjoying what I do?  Am I significantly impacting others in a positive way?  Did I do all I could to be the best I could be in all I attempted to accomplish?

Bama Draws Record Crowd for Spring Game

April 26th 2007

Q. What did you think when you heard the Crimson Tide tallied a record crowd of over 90,000 fans for its spring football game this past weekend?

A. Amazing!  I’ve worked in the Southeastern Conference, and I’ve witnessed SEC football first-hand for many years, but Alabama fans doubled it’s previous A-Game attendance record when an overflow crowd surpassed the seating capacity of 92,138 last Saturday.  It’s simply amazing.

April 19th 2007

Q. I recently read a story that women’s professional soccer will return in April of 2008. What do you think of women’s professional soccer re-launching and do you believe it will have a successful comeback?

A. I’ve kept up with the stories about the pending return of women’s professional soccer , and think it’s terrific.  The WNBA, which celebrates its 11th year when it tips off this summer, has steadily grown over the years and found success with more independent team owners. (more…)

Becoming a Top Performer

May 2nd 2006

 Q. What sales quotes, books, tips and resources do you recommend for a first-year sales executive who’s eager to learn and practice sales skills each day?

A. Here’s answer two of five for the above question (which we will continue to address each day this week):

Here are tips to becoming a top performer from sales veteran and mountain climber Susan Ershler:

  1. Support Your Team: “When you support them 150 percent, they support you,” said Ershler.
  2. Practice Teamwork: “In sales, you can’t be a lone ranger,” said Ershler. “A team will always outperform an individual.”
  3. Start Small: “If you don’t break down yor objectives, everyone has a tendency to get overwhelmed and walk away. Break it down into small pieces that you feel comfortable accomplishing today or this week, and then take it one piece at a time. More dreams are lost right there because the effort seems too big,” said Ershler.
