The 3 Big Questions

September 29th 2008

Q. Have you read “The 3 Big Questions for Frantic Family,” a leadership fable by Patrick Lencioni, and if you did, is it a book you’d recommend to other executives?

A. I have not read Patrick’s latest book, but I did recently pick it up and have read each of his other five leadership fables, and I’m looking forward to diving into this one in the weeks ahead.

Choose One Book

September 10th 2007

Q. If you were to recommend one book from your summer reading list you shared last Monday, what one book would you recommend?

A. Wow, that’s a tough question, especially since I added a sixth book to the list, Tony Dungy’s “Quiet Strength.” For me, it would be a toss-up between “The Three Signs of a Miserable Job,” by Patrick Lencioni; “Half-Time: Changing Your Game Plan from Success to Significance,” by Bob Buford and Dungy’s book. Books That Have Made a Difference

April 16th 2007

Q. Is there one book that has made a difference or impacted your career in a significant way?

A. No one business book (unlike the Bible, which may be – in my opinion – the greatest business book ever written) has impacted my career.  However, books in general (and I’ve invested in many of them over the years; just ask my wife) have certainly complimented the many experiences I’ve had throughout my career. Book Recommendation on Entrepreneurship

January 30th 2007

Q. Do you have a book you can recommend on entrepreneurship for someone who would like to start his own business?

A. I picked up a book and have only read the first two chapters of “You Call the Shots,” by Cameron Johnson, who started 12 successful businesses before he turned 21; quite amazing to say the least.

New Books on Sales

January 26th 2007

Q. Any new book recommendations on sales?

A. We’re always looking for that one “new” book on sales strategies and techniques versus the old, tested and true books. You’re in luck, though, because I did recently pick up a couple new books on sales.

The first is “Selling Results” by Bill Stinnett and so far it’s a winner.  The other is “Achieve Sales Excellence” by Howard Stevens and Theodore Kinni and it’s filled with a lot of basics, which are all good reminders.

Here’s a link to other books – the old ones! – I’d recommend.

Newcomer to Consulting

January 3rd 2007

Q. As a newcomer to consulting, what book, or books, would you recommend?

A. There are many books I could recommend, but Alan Weiss wrote “Getting Started in Consulting,” along with the Ultimate Consulting Series, which I’d recommend you invest in no matter what field you choose to be a consultant.

New Book Recommendation

September 26th 2006

Q. It’s been a while since you’ve made a book recommendation.  Is there a book or two you’d recommend for professional development?

A. I just started reading a new book, “The Power of Kindness,” how to conquer the business world with kindness, by Thaler and Koval.  Jay Leno wrote the forward.

I’m also reading two other books: “The Invisible Employee” and “Our Iceberg is Melting.”  Both are business books you may want to check out.

A. My summer reading has included more books than I have time to list, but one book I’d highly recommend for those who’d like to improve their sales or sales skills would be “Make Winning a Habit” by Rick Page.
