Cross Promotions among Sports

May 9th 2007

Q. Many times when two teams are doing well, we don’t think of promoting the success of each team by cross promoting the two sports. What do you think of this idea?

A. So true. When a team is doing well, it’s almost as if some sports execs coast, enjoy the moment, and live for the moment versus taking advantage of the team’s success and leveraging the team’s success for other teams or for future fans.

Recently, the Utah Jazz and the Salt Lake Bees did this very well. The Bees won the franchise’s 1,000th game and leveraged this success at a Utah Jazz playoff game against the Houston Rockets in Game Four of the NBA Playoffs by presenting Larry Miller (who owns both teams) with a game ball from the 1000th win.

This is a great example of leveraging the success of two successful teams.
