Trade in Dad’s Ugly Tie

My wife was reading the newspaper and shared with me a neat promotion a local donut shop conducted last week leading up to Father’s Day. As she read it aloud, I thought it could easily be altered by a sports team and conducted any time during the year, or possibly when a team offers Daddy-Daughter Day ticket specials.
The promotion encouraged kids to bring in one of their Dad’s old neckties to receive a dozen donuts at one of two locations. If word spread to kids on this promotion, I’m guessing a decent percentage of kids would be motivated to trade one of Dad’s old ties for a dozen free donuts. If Dad was able to share in the donuts consumption, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind giving up one of his ugly ties.
The promotion didn’t stop there, though. The dad with the ugliest tie received a dozen donuts each month for one year.
This could be executed in a similar fashion by sports team by securing a title or presenting sponsor (a men’s clothing store would be an ideal “tie-in.” Sorry, I couldn’t resist) and having the sponsor underwrite the tickets and a $500 shopping certificate, a sports team could give away a pair of tickets for each entry (nice database builder) with a pair of season tickets and a tie makeover going to the Dad with the ugliest tie.
The father and child (who submitted the winning ugly tie) could be recognized at center court or mid-field, where video could show the Dad in his old ugly tie and then the camera could show the Dad and child live at center court or at mid-field with his new tie and being presented with his season tickets and an over-sized check for the $500 shopping certificate.
