Not Too Soon for “Stocking Stuffers”
September 29th 2006
It may still feel like summer in some parts of the country, and for others, you’re experiencing some beautiful fall weather as the leafs begin to turn colors, but just because there’s only a hint of snow in the mountains doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have a stocking stuffer in place now.
Mt. Spokane and other ski areas around the country have stocking stuffer lift ticket packages featured prominently on its web sites and I encourage you to think about how – if you work in college athletics – you could package a football game, volleyball match, men’s and women’s basketball, and possibly a spring sport or two in a stocking stuffer ticket package.
You also have an opportunity to simply focus on one sport and offer a mini ticket plan, or mini ticket plan options for your fans.
If you work with a professional sports team, you could put together a few different mini plan options along with a premium item, and why not -love that question! – include an actual stocking with your team logo?
Don’t delay, though, now is the time. Before we know it, the holidays will be here!

The Happy Feet Sweepstakes
September 27th 2006
I just happen to sitting in a DoubleTree Hotel reading the USA Today when I came across a half-page advertisement that features a Happy Feet Sweepstakes where one lucky winner will enjoy a “fantastic trip for four to attend the Los Angeles premiere of the movie “Happy Feet from Warner Bros Pictures.”
That’s the grand prize.
Additionally, 50 “first Prize” winners will receive a copy of the “Warner Sunset/Atlantic Records Happy Feet Soundtrack featuring Prince, “The Song of the Heart,” and Gia Farrell, “Hit Me Up.”
If you like to enter, you can click here to read about the toe-tapping tale and register for your chance to win.
What a great way to promote a movie premiere – which happens to be Nov 17th for Happy Feet – as well as the movie’s soundtrack.
The same strategy could easily be transferred over and used to kick off a sports season or a sporting event.

Conduct a Naming Contest
September 26th 2006
Have you conducted a naming contest for your mascot, the dance team, a student support group, your family section, or any other naming contest?
It may be well worth the publicity you receive, and you could go as far as Good Year and actually set up a web site domain dedicated to the naming of its blimp.

Use Your Bean to Get Free Coffee
September 21st 2006
Did you know Dunkin’ Donuts now has a line of coffee? I didn’t until I viewed a Budget rent-a-car advertisement in the USA Today that featured the headline, “Use your bean to get your coffee.”
The ad offered readers the opportunity to “rent twice and get two pounds of Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee free.” I don’t usually eat donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts, so I’m not surprised I haven’t heard about its line of coffee, but if I had to guess, I believe the coffee line is new to the market and Dunkin’ Donuts has teamed with Budget in an effort to promote the new coffee line.
If this is true, Dunkin’ Donuts has likely teamed with other companies in an effort to receive free advertising and promote its new line of coffee.
This is partnership between Budget and Dunkin’ Donuts is a great example of business alliances that benefit both companies and easily can be transferred to any business, including the sports business. You can follow this link to read more about this offer: http://www.budget.com/budgetWeb/misc/ddenrollment.ex.
