Baseball Offers 2-Year Season Tickets

July 14th 2008

A number of minor league baseball teams have begun to offer their most loyal fans the opportunity to invest in multiple year season tickets, as well as the opportunity to renew season tickets for multiple years for special savings and benefits.

For example, with a two-year commitment, one ball club is providing the following benefits: Prices locked at 2008 season prices for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. (more…)

Seattle Mariners Business Ticket Plan

July 7th 2008

The Seattle Mariners offer a Business Plan that includes tickets to every Monday through Thursday regular-season home game. New Business Plan Holders have the opportunity to purchase tickets to half of the postseason home games in an alternate seat location.

I like the offer and would encourage sports teams to consider a business speaker’s series (or a similar business-oriented benefit) tied to the weekday games to assist businesses with their employee development, networking, and events to bring prospective clients.

June 2nd 2008

The Oakland A’s are offering a special Father’s Day Six-Pack of games that include lower level tickets to six different games for half off the regular price.

The A’s Father’s Day offer is equal to a “buy one get one” since Father’s would likely receive a pair of tickets.

Drive Season Ticket Sales with Car Sales

April 28th 2008

Have you ever considered a partnership with a car dealership to increase your season ticket sales?

We recently received a direct mail piece from a car dealer that offered one complimentary one-day pass to an amusement park for a “qualified test drive,” and a complimentary family season pass with a purchase of a vehicle.

These are two great ways car dealerships can provide value to test drives and car purchases, and whether you’re an amusement park or sports team, it’s a fantastic strategy for selling - or “driving” - new full season ticket sales.

Plan Ahead for Post-Season Success

April 7th 2008

Sports teams that successfully leverage post-season prepare for this success well before they’ve clinched a spot in post-season play.  In fact, the most successful selling sports teams plan their post-season marketing and sales strategies well before they start the season.

The sports teams that have fallen short of successfully maximizing its post-season opportunities are usually the teams that react a few weeks before their post-season – versus having a plan before the season’s start - and therefore find themselves in a poor position to fully maximize its opportunities.

I read an article where an NHL team clinched a spot (more…)

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have created three unique partial plans where fans who invest in the five-game packages will receive at least two nights of premium item giveaways, along with one T-shirt with each package.

Although fans are not guaranteed to receive one of the giveaways, there’s a good chance fans will receive one of the 6,000 giveaways each game.

Offer Next Year’s Season Tickets

August 13th 2007

The performing arts offer its season tickets for the next season during the season they are performing.  In other words, theatres are offering 2008 season tickets – complete with a list of the 2008 shows and dates – now.

What if sports teams did the same?  For some, it may not be possible to promote the complete home schedule with opponents and dates, but most teams know what conference games they will host, and have the majority of the non-conference schedule solidified, so why not promote season tickets for next season during this year’s season? Offer Early Bird Ticket Special

June 6th 2007

I like the Early Bird ticket special strategy, and Tulane athletics recently implemented its Season Ticket Early Bird Special for Green Wave season ticket holders who renew by the Early Bird deadline.

It’s a great way to reward your season ticket holders for their loyalty and early commitment to investing in season tickets, and a great way to get an early jump on full season ticket sales for the 2007 football season – or any sports season in 2007-08.

Implement an Early Bird Ticket Special

March 20th 2007

The Minnesota Timberwolves introduced “Early Bird” season ticket packages for the 2007-08 season.  It’s a terrific idea and more sports teams should consider implementing this season ticket sales strategy.

Fill the Gaps Campaign

March 2nd 2007

There are many great examples of “Fill the Gaps Campaigns” being implemented today for various initiatives, but the “Fill the Gaps Campaign” I’m referring to in today’s blog post is the gaps between season ticket holders in your sports venues.

Those empty seats – singles, doubles, all of them – that rest between your season ticket holders (STHs) and primarily being used to house your STHs coats and jackets. Why not fill those seats with paid season ticket buyers? (more…)

Utilizing Chalk Talk to Sell Season Tickets

December 18th 2006

I was reading The Washington Post and came across an advertisement for a “Chalk Talk” presented by the Sports Authority, Under Armour and The Washington Post featuring former University of Maryland star Vernon Davis.

The event was scheduled to be held at Rockville, Md., Sports Authority and included a chalk talk moderated by a Washington Post sports reporter, an Under Armour cleat unveiling, an offer extended for the first 100 people who pre-order or purchase the cleats would have the opportunity to meet Vernon Davis, and a lace-up contest with prizes, DJ and music.

This is a neat event that any sports team could do with the twist being a sports team conduct to kick off its season ticket sales.  Utilize your head coach at the event, conduct a chalk talk, offer the opportunity for attendees to place a deposit or pay in full for season tickets, conduct contests with your mascot, cheer and dance team on hand, and promote at the sports store, through newspapers ads as a part of a newspaper presenting sponsorship, and utilizing all other sports team advertising and promotions assets.

Why not do multiple chalk talk events leading up to the season or year-round in an effort to sell seasons, secure deposits on groups, or include individual game tickets in the chalk talk package?

Shock Leverage Finals for Deposits

August 31st 2006

The Detroit Shock, who are playing in the WNBA Finals, are taking advantage of the team’s success by promoting 2007 season ticket deposits on its web site.

So many times sports teams are reactive when it comes to leveraging its teams success instead of preparing well ahead of the start of the season for success, and how they will leverage its success.

It’s refreshing to see a sports team like the Shock take advantage of its success to net new season ticket deposits before the 2006 season has even concluded.  If the Shock win the Championship, they will be in great shape to continue leveraging its success during the off season, and if they don’t earn the title, they will still benefit from the fact they were proactive in netting deposits before the championship series.

Time to Think About Stocking Stuffers

August 25th 2006

It’s hard to believe, mainly because we haven’t kicked off a football game yet, but in a few short months we’ll not only be in the midst of the football season, but we’ll also be tipping off basketball.

If you’re involved in the marketing, promoting and selling basketball, you likely have rolled out your season ticket renewal campaign, along with your new season ticket initiative, group ticket sales and soon will be gearing up for your individual ticket sales.

Don’t miss the opportunity to thank all those people who purchased single-game tickets from you last season by offering them a discounted season ticket package in the form of a stocking stuffer.

In your offer, you can provide an actual stocking with a gift certificate for the season tickets, or you could provide an extra incentive of two complimentary tickets to a marquee game for orders received before a date you select.

It’s not too early to plan and include a stocking stuffer in your basketball single-game ticket sales plan.

Marshall Hosts “Choose a Seat” Event

June 26th 2006

The Marshall Athletics Department hosted a “Choose a Seat” event this past Saturday where fans had the opportunity to view, sit and choose seats from those available for Marshall football.

You can read about this event here.

If you haven’t hosted a “Choose a Seat,” “Select-a-Seat,” or Open House event for prospective season ticket holders to view available seats, sit in the seats available, choose their seats, as well as tour your facilities and get to know your staff, coaches and student-athletes, you may want to consider hosting a similar event.

In addition to the above activities, you could also provide attendees the opportunity to play on your field, or on your court if you choose to do for football and/or volleyball.  It’s an event that’s ideal for any sports team.

Ticket Sales Idea for Out of Town Fans

June 1st 2006

New Mexico State recently announced a neat idea marketing to out of town fans.  You can check it out here.

Although a football ticket sales strategy, it’s called the Triple Play.  I guess “Field Goal” doesn’t carry the same excitement as a Triple Play.

Well, hopefully NMSU hits a homerun with the new ticket sales strategy!
