Dicky V Sound-a-Like Contest

Many teams have hosted look-a-like contests over the years, and they usually have involved college and professional sports team’s coaches. Mountain Dew took a different approach, though, with its “Dicky V Sound-a-Like Contest.”
 

This could be a fun promotion for any basketball team, as well as other sports teams looking to create a promotion to engage its fans. (more…)

Constantly Hone Your Cognitive Fitness

I read a great article about “Cognitive Fitness” in the Harvard Business Review OnPoint, which emphasized the benefits of leaders who have constantly honed their cognitive fitness – ability to reason, remember, learn, plan, and adapt – by practicing various techniques that stimulate development of new brain cells and neural networks.
 

The article describes how Alan Greenspan, Warren Buffett and other well-known leaders have defied the logic that at advanced ages our mental capacity deteriorates with aging. (more…)

A’s Fuel Ticket Sales with Free Gas

Many sports teams, especially those with sub-500 records, usually find themselves struggling to create a sense of urgency for fans to purchase game tickets, and the Oakland A’s found a way to “fuel” ticket sales with it’s “Free Gas Fridays” ticket promotion.
 

It’s a great ticket promotion for several reasons. For one, it creates a sense of urgency for the first 500 fans to purchase tickets for Friday home games for a chance to win a new GM vehicle, and to receive a free $10 Chevron Gift Card. (more…)

I read an article over the holidays titled “Manage Your Energy, Not Your Time,” in the Harvard Business Review OnPoint magazine that executives feeling pressed to put in longer hours may find beneficial.
 

In fact, business owners and leaders would also benefit from reading the article since the strategies suggested could positively impact your bottom line.
