Create a Breakfast With Santa Event
December 1st 2008
Two years ago on this date – Dec 1, 2006 – I answered a question in The Telios Group “Question of the Week” blog that asked whether or not appearances by Santa at sporting events increased fan attendance.
In the blog post, which you can read here, I shared how restaurants and other amusement parks have created “Breakfast With Santa” events, and I recommended to sports teams to consider creating similar events and tie in tickets to a sporting event. (more…)

Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation Night
June 23rd 2008
The Fort Worth Cats hosted the annual Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation Night last month and a crowd of 5,071 celebrated the event, which honors deserving eighth-grade students with scholarships.
Fans were able to reserve tickets in blocks of 20, 50, or 100 at $5 per ticket (nearly 50-percent off regular prices).
Fans received various benefits based on the number of tickets they purchased. For $100 (20 tickets), fans had their name listed in the game program; for $250 (50 tickets), fans also had their name featured on the scoreboard and received an exclusive invitation for them and three guests to a pre-game dinner in the party tent with special celebrity guests; and for $500 (100 tickets), fans also received a baseball signed that night by Bobby Bragan, Maury Wills, and other Cats greats.

May 26th 2008

As usual, I reflected on how this strategy could benefit a sports team. (more…)
Omni Hotels Get Into the Game
April 21st 2008
I recent edition of the Omni Select Guest e-News celebrated one of America’s favorite pastimes - baseball – by offering hotel packages that include various baseball packages that included rooms, cracker jacks, peanuts, parking at the hotel, and other hotel amenities.
The only thing missing were the tickets to the game, and this is where it would be a terrific partnership and a home run for hotels and sports teams to partner and offer fans a complete package that also includes tickets to games.![]()
This is a terrific opportunity to tap into the hotels guests who are looking for events and activities to enjoy while traveling.

March 3rd 2008
As we move closer to March Madness, baseball has been creating some madness of its own, as single-game tickets recently went on sale for many of the minor and major league baseball teams.
What’s all the madness? For some fans, it’s all about who can be the first in line for sales, and it’s become tradition for those who relish being No. 1 in line. (more…)
A’s Fuel Ticket Sales with Free Gas
January 14th 2008
Many sports teams, especially those with sub-500 records, usually find themselves struggling to create a sense of urgency for fans to purchase game tickets, and the Oakland A’s found a way to “fuel” ticket sales with it’s “Free Gas Fridays” ticket promotion.
It’s a great ticket promotion for several reasons. For one, it creates a sense of urgency for the first 500 fans to purchase tickets for Friday home games for a chance to win a new GM vehicle, and to receive a free $10 Chevron Gift Card. (more…)

Family Value Day
August 27th 2007
The summer and fall seasons are the seasons for fairs and festivals, and the Utah State Fair is offering a neat Family Value Day where youth ages 12 and under are admitted free (which could also be an opportunity to tie in a sponsor to underwrite tickets) and adults get in for the youth price.
The adults receiving the youth price on family value days is a great strategy for offering families a discount. (more…)
Free Lesson Thursday
August 20th 2007
I was reading ticket specials offered by a ski resort and most were common to sports and entertainment, but one of the ticket promotions I thought was unique and could transfer over well to sports was “Free Lesson Thursday” where skiers who purchase a ticket on Thursdays receive a complimentary ski lesson.
I really like the idea and believe this would be a great offer for sports teams if they offered on a specific day each week a kids clinic, which could work well for any sports team – baseball, basketball, football, soccer, volleyball. (more…)

As result of some great feedback we received recently on our blogs, we have transitioned (as you may have already noticed last week) to posting once per week versus daily. We hope you enjoy the new format and here’s this week’s Telios Tip:
Some sports teams offer a combo food and ticket offer, while others offer concession specials on Dollar Days and other fun promotions, but how about offering ticket buyers in a particular seating section an all-you-can-eat special with the purchase of their tickets? (more…)

June 13th 2007
Our family recently enjoyed lunch at a Wendy’s restaurant during a vacation to Florida and below the Wendy’s logo on one of the food bags, the headline read “Serving Up More,” and below the headline were logos for Busch Gardens, SeaWorld and Adventure Island.
Below the three theme park logos was the sub-headline, “Look Inside for Valuable Offers.” Wendy’s provided coupons for each of the three parks with each order. (more…)
Fan Fest Kicks Off Ticket Sales
June 8th 2007
A popular trend for kicking off ticket sales – or tipping off ticket sales if your sport is basketball – has been sports teams hosting Fan Fest events, similar to the Yakima Bears Fan Fest they will host tomorrow.
Check out here what the San Francisco Giants did for its Fan Fest back in January, as well as the Astros Fan Fest, the Diamondbacks Third Annual Fan Fest, and the Oakland Athletics Fan Fest, which all were held to market and promote the on-sale of single-game ticket sales. (more…)

April 6th 2007
The Denver Nuggets advertised its Family Night ticket package in The Denver Post for this past Wednesday’s game, and their affordable four person plan that includes tickets, Pepsis, hot dogs and a $10 ESPN Zone game card.
What made the offer attractive to readers is the fact they promoted its least expensive ticket – which is $10 – just below the advertisement’s headline, and then below a picture in the middle of the advertisement, featured the family plan offer with, “4 tickets, 4 Pepsis, 4 hot dogs and a $10 ESPN Game Card for $59.” (more…)

The Importance of the Test Drive
March 28th 2007
A few times as I boarded a plane and walked past first class on my way to my coach seat, I’d think to myself how nice it would be to be in those expanded seats…especially on a four-hour trip.
Well, one day my ticket listed me in first class. I knew it was a mistake, though, because I didn’t purchase a first class seat. So I went to the counter, explained there must be a mistake because my seat was listed in first class. The person behind the counter informed me the first class seat was indeed mine because I qualified for a complimentary upgrade. (more…)

March 26th 2007
The University of Utah gymnastics program ran a ticket promotion offering complimentary admission to anyone 4-foot-10 and under, which is just under the height of the Utes shortest gymnast.
This is a creative alternative to a “buy one get one” or a child’s ticket free with each paying adult.

It’s all About the Shoes
March 23rd 2007
I read an advertisement in The Republican (Springfield, Mass) newspaper and believe the event - or elements of the event - may be a natural for a women’s sporting event to host independently or in conjunction with a sporting game and include a game ticket.
The event - “It’s all About the Shoes” - will be on April 12 at The Log Cabin Banquet & Meeting House in Springfield.
The event will feature Yvonne Williams, author of “It’s all About the Shoes,” a book of women’s shoe stories. (more…)
Family Fun Science Fair
February 6th 2007
I never knew a science fair could be fun, but I guess that’s because when I was in school, I don’t remember “science” as fun.
But, fast forward a few years (okay, several years) and the elementary schools are hosting an annual “Family Fun Science Night” that this year attracted over 450 junior scientists!
