Do Something That Scares You

Years ago I read a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt that stated, “Do one thing every day that scares you,” and I couldn’t help but smile. You see, I’m a bit of a risk-taker. I enjoy taking risks from time-to-time, but I hadn’t thought of taking a risk each day.

That’s pretty bold, even for a guy who owns a shirt that reads: “If it isn’t dangerous, it’s a waste of oxygen.”  To clarify, I picked up the shirt while white water rafting in North Carolina with some friends last year.  It was a bit scary and dangerous, but a whole lot of fun. (more…)

WNBA Crowns Its 11th Champion

It was a great sports day yesterday with both the Chicago Cubs and da Bears winning their respective games, but what made yesterday a “great” sports day was seeing the WNBA celebrate its 11th season by crowning the Phoenix Mercury the 2007 WNBA Champions.

The Championship was played In the “Motor City,” but it was the Mercury who had their motor running on all cylinders. It was clear from the tip to the final horn the Mercury was determined to seize their opportunity to bring the Championship trophy to Phoenix. (more…)

Being Present with our Kids

I read for the first time a quote by Jesse Jackson that was one of those quotes that made me go, “Whoa.” It made me stop and think about my priorities, and re-read the quote a second time.

Here’s the quote: “Children need your presence more than your presents.” – Jesse Jackson; a simple, to the point, and a powerful message. (more…)

Be Prepared for Your Many Opportunities

We’ve all heard during our lifetime how important preparation is to success. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.”

I watched a special feature on Peyton Manning, and although I’ve always been impressed with Peyton Manning the person as much as Peyton Manning the football player, I gained another level of respect for Peyton’s well documented meticulous preparation. (more…)
