A good friend shared with me that he and his wife have enjoyed their participation in a gourmet club.
I must admit, at first I thought it sounded like something I wouldn’t be interested in participating in, and since my friend doesn’t even live in the same state, I didn’t need to worry about him inviting me to be a part of his gourmet club.
He likely could see the look on my face when he said “gourmet club” that I wasn’t too interested, but he was insistent to share with me how neat his gourmet club is.
I actually said, “Are you serious? You’re in a gourmet club?” He said, “It’s not what you think.” I said, “Really?
He explained how six couples participate in the bi-monthly get-together. They meet at different couples homes and select a different theme each time.
The couple hosting that month’s dinner selects the theme, and the food, outfits and decorations are all tied to the theme.
I quickly shifted from disinterested to interested. In fact, I said “That sounds like fun.” He said, “It is a lot of fun.”
It’s amazing what we learn or think after we’ve initially made up our minds. In this case, I was convinced upon hearing “gourmet club” that it wasn’t something that would interest me.
However, after hearing what the gourmet club actually is, I sat down and discussed the idea with my wife as well as our neighbors and we’re in the midst of creating our very own gourmet club.
The lesson – don’t be so quick to judge. It’s something I know I’m quick to do, and lesson learned in this case!
