I was in Los Angeles last week when I noticed a fish bowl with business cards in it.  The sign n the bowl invited the restaurant guests to drop their business card in the fish bowl for a chance to win a free dinner.

It occurred to me that most sports teams no don’t use the fish bowl enter to win strategy like restaurants have traditionally done for years.

Why not?

Each business card has the person’s name, title, business, address, phone number, fax number, email address and occasionally their cell phone number. This is all the information you need to follow up with a prospective ticket buyer or  a potential corporate partner.

You receive a day time phone number versus a home phone, so you can call during normal business hours. You receive the name of the person’s employer, which you can research prior to calling the person. You also avoid children who may enter your contests.

You could always place the fish bowl enter to wins at the concession stands near the cash register, just as restaurants do, and see how many business cards you collect during the season.
