Restaurants Now Rewarding for Loyalty

October 8th 2007

While on a business trip in Colorado, I was provided with a brochure with my meal that featured information on a loyalty rewards program that sounded a lot like an airlines frequent flyer program.

The restaurant group, which includes four different restaurants in various cities, has created a rewards program that offers various gift cards, bottles of wine, express seating, a personal chef experience, and special events at restaurants for points accumulated by customers.

A neat idea and I’ll be interested to hear how effective this program is over time.

As I often do, I thought about sports teams and collegiate athletics and how this type of loyalty program – similar to priority seating tied to donor levels – might be successfully executed in a similar fashion if sports teams and college athletics not only tied tickets and donor levels to a loyalty program, but all purchases made by fans – including concessions and merchandise – and rewarded fans with special benefits, including special experiences with the team.
