Mom & Me at the Zoo
April 30th 2007
While reading the newspaper, I came across an advertisement promoting “Mom & Me at the Zoo.”
It caught my eye as a neat event for kids and their mothers, and strategically timed with Mother’s Day approaching.
The event will include games, face painting, entertainment, a frozen treat from an ice cream sponsor, and arts and crafts.
What made this event unique is the event t-shirt – which featured a mother elephant and a baby elephant on the front and the event sponsors on the back – is attendees “ticket” into the zoo.
Here’s the interesting part – the T-shirts, which are $7 each (plus tax), are being sold in the kids department at a clothing retailer.
This is a neat strategy to tie in a retailer and create foot traffic for the retailer.
In addition to the retailer and dairy (ice cream) company sponsorships, the zoo also was able to secure media sponsorships with radio, TV and two newspapers.
This could easily be replicated by a sports team, and not only during Mother’s Day, but any time throughout the year.
Similar promotion could be created for dads and daughters, fathers and sons, mothers and sons, and Grandparents and grandkids.
