Junior Fire Warden Initiative

December 17th 2007

The Calgary Roughnecks and the Calgary Fire Department have teamed up to help kids under the age of 12 be safer by becoming a “Junior Fire Warden” in their home.

During the 2007 season, kids interested in entering the contest have been given a series of Safety Drills (see link below) to complete with family members. Once each drill is finished, each child, with the help of mom or dad, can send their entry to firewarden@calgaryroughnecks.com.

The Roughnecks and the Calgary Fire Department will choose a winner to be Deputy Chief for a day.

Other sports teams could consider implement a similar program with their local community fire depts., and create a ticket voucher program where each participant that enters the contest receives a “congratulations” ticket voucher that includes one complimentary ticket (courtesy of the local fire dept and a corporate partner) and teams could recognize the kids (picture with the mascot) at one selected “fire safety night.”

Family members and friends would also have the opportunity to purchase specially reduced priced tickets (also included on the voucher form).
