The Investment of Inflatable Games

May 4th 2007

Q. We’re debating internally whether or not inflatable games, tunnels, and an inflatable mascot would be worth us spending money on as an athletic department. What are your thoughts?

A. While working in college athletics several years ago, we made an investment on inflatable tunnels for basketball, soccer and volleyball.

In addition, we purchased a 25-foot inflatable mascot and used it at corporate partner locations or other high visibility locations to promote home athletic events.

The tunnels, along with special lighting and fog machines, turned out to be great additions to our team introductions.

In regards to the inflatable games, I think these are great for fan fests, kid zones and general entertainment at games.

However, instead of purchasing the games, we arranged a sponsorship trade with an inflatable company that was interested in gaining visibility and awareness for its company.

If the “debate” is whether to invest the money, you may want to consider sponsorship opportunities, or you could explore sponsorship trade opportunities that may exist in your market.
