Taking Work Home

November 26th 2007

Q. Last week you provided some good advice for better time management.  Any tips on how to leave work at work instead of bringing it home?

A. This can be a tough challenge to overcome for many people – including myself – and some feel the need to vent or seek advice from their spouse or partner when they come home from a stressful day at the office.

A friend once shared with me his secret for leaving his work problems at the office.  He said, “When I arrive home from work, I take off my shoes and leave them at the door, which is my reminder that I need to leave my work problems at the door.”

I liked the idea when I heard it and adopted it for myself.  You may also want to give it a try and see if it helps.
