Santa Appearance at Sporting Events

Q. Do many of the teams bring in Santa Claus to games around the Christmas holidays and is this a big attendance driver, or are there other promotions that you recommend for the Christmas holidays to drive attendance?
A. Great question and I’m sure there are plenty of sports teams that schedule a day or evening where Santa appears at a game, and hands out candy to the fans in attendance. Does this increase attendance? Not likely.
However, if you created a separate event – Breakfast with Santa or something similar – and offered the opportunity for kids to have a picture taken with Santa; provided arts and crafts for the kids; served breakfast to all attendees, and packaged these events with your game ticket, you likely would see a spike in your game attendance if you actively promoted and sold the event.
Many restaurants, hotels and family amusement businesses host these types of events annually, and not just one event, but several and many are filled to capacity. Our family attends a local breakfast with Santa event that is hosted each weekend during the month of December and each breakfast has sold out in years past.
