There’s something about youthful confidence that makes me smile. I love to see and be around people with positive attitudes, but there’s just something extra special about youth and young people being positive and feeling like they can do anything they set their minds to that I love.

While traveling on business this week, a flight attendant struck up a conversation with me and asked what I do for a living.  When I told her I work in the sports business, she responded without hesitation, “I’m going to do the same thing, except I’m going to be a sports agent representing athletes.”

I smiled and said, “That’s terrific, ” and we visited a little while longer about where she goes to school and her passion for sports.

Just this past weekend, our seven-year-old daughter displayed similar confidence at her basketball game.

While sitting on the sidelines during half-time, Kennedy ran over to me and my wife, and jumped on my lap.  After she gave me a hug, she looked me in the eyes and asked with a smile, “You know what?” And I responded as I usually do, “No KJ, what?” She said, “When I’m a teenager, I’m going to play you in basketball and I’m going to beat you.”

It’s not often I’m lost for words, but for several seconds I wasn’t really sure how to respond.  My competitive nature inside wanted to take on the challenge, but then I smiled and said, “I bet you will!” She smiled, hugged me and ran back to her team for the second half.
