Roman philosopher Seneca once said, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”
Most people would call Chase Utley, the Philadelphia Phillies All-Star second baseman, one lucky guy. But ask anyone who knows him and they will likely tell you he prepared well for a tremendous opportunity last season.
Utley, who made $500, 000 last season, received a hefty pay raise for hitting .309 with 40 doubles, 32 home runs, 102 RBI and 131 runs.
The Philadelphia Phillies recently rewarded Utley with a seven-year, $85 million dollar contract.
It pays to be prepared for opportunities.
