Utley Takes Full Advantage of Opportunity

January 25th 2007

Roman philosopher Seneca once said,  “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”

Most people would call Chase Utley, the Philadelphia Phillies All-Star second baseman, one lucky guy. But ask anyone who knows him and they will likely tell you he prepared well for a tremendous opportunity last season.

Utley, who made $500,000 last season, received a hefty pay raise for hitting .309 with 40 doubles, 32 home runs, 102 RBI and 131 runs.

The Philadelphia Phillies recently rewarded Utley with a seven-year, $85 million dollar contract.

It pays to be prepared for opportunities.
