I was reading the newspaper and came across an advertisement with a man looking scared of something – of what, I didn’t know until I read the headline, “Real Manly Men Aren’t Afraid of a Little Prostate Cancer Screening.”

As the ad states: “Because with a 1 in 6 chance of being diagnosed, they know it’s important to get checked. If you’re 40 or older, talk to your doctor about prostate cancer screening and call the Utah Department of Health resource line for a free brochure at 1-888-222-2542. Be Informed. Be a Man.”
I believe the ad and “prostate cancer” in the headline caught my eye because I’ve had a number of friends and associates pass away the last few years of pancreatic cancer. It’s amazing to me how healthy men who at a relatively young age have lost their lives to various forms of cancer.
Interested to learn more, I went to the web site listed on the public service ad and found a few more ads and a radio spot. One of the ads features a bodybuilder and the other a Biker. This is a creative way to connect with three very different men. You can listen to the “Manly Man” radio spot by clicking here.
I learned a great deal by visiting the site and thought I’d share with you a link to the Cancer Facts & Figures if you’re interested in seeing the state by state numbers and other facts and figures.
I fall into the category listed above of males 40 and older, and I had never thought of asking my doctor about screening for prostate cancer, but I will now and encourage of you out there who fall into the same category to do the same.
